TMS for Depression
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Berlin
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive treatment for depression. Targeted magnetic pulses stimulate brain regions that are underactive in depressive disorders.
The treatment is approved, evidence-based, and recommended by international guidelines – particularly when medication is insufficient or poorly tolerated.
Who Is TMS For?
How It Works
Initial Consultation
Assessment, informed consent, discussion of treatment goals.
Treatment Course
20 sessions over 4 weeks (Mon–Thu). Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes; the stimulation itself takes about 3 minutes (iTBS protocol).
Progress Monitoring
Regular assessment using standardised questionnaires.
Completion
Evaluation and recommendations for next steps.
Technology
We use the MagVenture MagPro R30 with Cool-B70 coil – a system established in clinical and research settings. The iTBS protocol (intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation) delivers effective treatment in significantly shorter session times compared to older protocols.
Side Effects
TMS is well tolerated. The most common side effect is mild headache after the first few sessions, which typically resolves on its own. Serious side effects are very rare.
Cost
Treatment is billed according to the German physicians' fee schedule (GOÄ). Private health insurance (PKV) frequently covers the cost – we recommend checking with your insurer before starting treatment. We are happy to provide a cost estimate.
Self-pay patients are welcome.
