Burnout & Stress

When Exhaustion Takes Over

Burnout describes a state of chronic exhaustion – physical, emotional, and mental. Resilience decreases, recovery no longer works properly, and even simple tasks require disproportionate effort.

The term is widely used but is not a clearly defined medical diagnosis. The boundaries with depression, anxiety disorders, or physical conditions are fluid.

Burnout Can Be Addressed
Even chronic exhaustion can be alleviated with structured assessment and targeted interventions.

Common Symptoms

Persistent exhaustion that doesn't improve with rest
Feeling overwhelmed
Cynicism or detachment from work and other people
Decreased performance and concentration problems
Sleep disturbances
Physical complaints (headaches, muscle tension, frequent infections)
Withdrawal from social contacts

Burnout and Depression

Burnout and depression overlap significantly. Many people who come with "burnout" meet criteria for a depressive episode. This isn't a dismissal of their experience – it helps identify the right treatment.

We clarify:

  • Is this a depression that requires treatment?
  • Are there other causes (thyroid issues, sleep disorders, ADHD)?
  • What is most urgent right now?

Our Approach

We focus on what is needed now rather than labels:

Diagnostic Assessment

Ruling out physical causes and differentiating from depression or other conditions

Treatment Planning

Depending on the situation: medication, psychotherapy, or both. Sometimes stabilization is the first priority

Psychotherapy Indication

If psychotherapy seems appropriate, we clarify which form may be suitable. Finding a therapist is your responsibility – we provide supporting documentation

Appointments are usually available within a few days.
